What type of Veterinarian will I be in the next 5 years?

WHAT IS VETERINARIAN?

Veterinarian is licensed doctor of animal health who had been full trained in university which provides and intensive surgical care toward animals

WHAT DOES VETERINARIAN DO?

To diagnose animal disease and give appropriate treatments needed for animals that suffer from a disease. A veterinarian also would give some consultation or advice to pet owner regarding to the pets' feeding, behavior, breeding and related issues.

Veterinarian also keep continue to be knowledgeable and aware for the current disease in animals and find a way and treatment techniques to medicate the animals

TYPE OF VETERINARIAN?
There are a lot of type of veterinarian. Each type has different roles and specialties. But I would like to explain 3 types:

A) WILDLIFE VETERINARIAN
A wildlife veterinarian must work at the animals' habitat, same conditions as a zookeeper. This job need full commitment because the animals need care no matter what weather hits. They have to monitor behavior and eating habits of animals, develop meal-plans to make sure every species recieve sufficient nutrients needed. On the other hand, they must examine all animals in the facility yearly and perform surgery as needed on animals. Moreover, they should keep on developing innovative treatment for wildlife animals, Wildlife animal veterinarians are also exposed at higher risk of injury from their patients and zoonotic diseases.

B) AQUATIC VETERINARIAN
Aquatic veterinarians more focus on health management of fish, invertebrates and marine mammals. Their general duties basically includes observing and evaluating the animal's behavior, medication prescription, vaccination,  performing surgery based on necessity, and  suturing wounds. it is common for aquatic veterinarian to work almost 7 days per week on "on call" duty that depends on the location of practice. In other point of view, their work usually involved in variations of temperatures and weather conditions. Most of aquatic veterinarian has diving license and great swimming skills that will allow them to observe, do research and guide the patient in their habitats.

C) MIXED PRACTICE VETERINARIAN
Mixed practice vets specialized in both small (dogs, cats and other pets animals) and large animals ( livestock animals) health management.

As large animals practice involves a lot of outside region visit such as farm. The vehicle used usually are customized for the patient so that they can be easy to mobilize. The working hours for mixed practice veterinarian could be both in the morning and evening hours every day with addition "on call" duty for emergencies that may occur on weekends and holidays. The physical strength must be bold for this work especially when treating large animals. They might be very aggressive while performing the treatment. They also must be very careful while handling small animals by avoid from getting scratches and bites.
The usual duties for mixed practice vet are almost the same with other type of vet. Such as, giving vaccinations, medicine prescription, teeth cleaning, drawing blood, suturing wounds and perform surgeries if needed.

WHAT TYPE OF VETERINARIAN WILL I BE IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?

According to the dream that I have been dreaming of since I was in primary school, I really want to own a veterinary hospital. Therefore, I need to be specialized in both large and small animals. In addition, I would love to learn about these animals even further. After I graduated from Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), I will be a mixed practice veterinarian. It will be very adventurous, challenging and super fun!
